Mission: To provide inclusive and quality education in history, promote regionally and nationally relevant research, and develop critical, analytical, and ethical thinkers who contribute to society through historical understanding and civic engagement.
Vision: To empower students through historical knowledge that enlightens minds and inspires social transformation, especially among the underprivileged.
Established in June 1963, the Department of History has grown into a leading center of historical education and research. The post-graduation Department and research Centre in History is the only granted P. G. education facility in the region since 1963 A.D. The department boasts a team of highly qualified faculty, including Ph.D. holders and recognized research guides. It is well-equipped with modern educational technology tools like - interactive boards, LCD projectors, computers, internet access, and digital resources. Under UGC, CPE, COHSSIP, and PM-USHA schemes, the department has developed a dedicated photography section and a rich collection of visual and material history. Department has developed a small museum of art pieces made of plaster of Paris presented to the department by the National Museum, New Delhi, and an impressive collection of ancient, medieval and
modern coins. The department has successfully guided over 50 Ph.D. scholars, 40 M.Phil. students, and more than 60 NET/SET qualifiers. It has hosted prestigious events such as the 22nd Akhil Maharashtra Itihas Parishad and a national conference on Tourism and National Development (CTND 2020).
The Department of History proudly acknowledges the invaluable contributions of its former Heads and Professors, who laid a strong academic foundation and nurtured a culture of excellence. Shri D. S. Pawar and Prof. John Alexander were among the pioneering educators who shaped the early years of the department. Dr. P. R. Deo and Dr. B. S. Dhengle (former Principal of Yeshwant Mahavidyalaya, Nanded) played key roles in strengthening postgraduate and research activities. Eminent scholars like Shri P. L. Bilolikar, Dr. K. A. Lohgaonkar, Prof. Dr. U. S. Sawant, Dr. Sangita Shinde and Dr. N. A. Salunke have significantly contributed to the academic, research, and cultural enrichment of the department. Their dedication, scholarly guidance, and vision have been instrumental in making the department a reputed center for historical studies and
research in the region. Currently, Dr. Shivraj Bokade leads the department, continuing its legacy of academic excellence and innovation.
