Department of Economics is founded in 1968, the Department of Economics is one of the oldest well known and aided PG departments amongst many colleges of the Maharashtra state and it has made a qualitative contribution to research and Post Graduate education in economics since its initiation.

The Department offers a Bachelor Degree - B. A. (Four years’ – Degree with Research as per NEP -2020), Master’s M.A. (Two years- as per NEP -2020) courses in economics and along with this department also offers add on course titled ‘Data Analysis: theory and Practice’ since 2025-26. Department has recognized research centre for Ph.D. in Economics. The department thrives to reach standards of excellence in teaching and research in economics. Every year we get an overwhelming response for Masters from all across Marathwada region as well as Maharashtra state. Departmental strength also consists of one professor and two associate professors specialized in varied areas of economics. Department has very rich intellectual legacy and it has continued to enrich and deepen it further.

  Many Dignitaries had been head of department and they contributed well to shape up many successful students in the society. Former Head of the department, Dr. Ghuge V. B. has served as Head of the Department of Economics at Shivaji University, Kolhapur and Dr. Shendarkar and Dr. Vibhute also served as Principal in reputed colleges as well as Dr. Shendarkar also working as joint secretary of Shri Sharda Bhavan Education Society Nanded a reputed Educational Institution in Marathwada region. Current head of the department Dr. Muthe P. R. working as member of Board of Studies and 48 (3) Examination Committee in Economics at S. R. T.M. University Nanded, member of Board of Studies in Economics at Sant Gade Baba Amravati University, Amravati as well as member of Board of Studies in Banking and finance at Ramkrushna More College (Autonomous) Pune.  Dr. Bhosale D. D. and Dr. Pupalwad D. A. are also working as member of Board of Studies in Economics at S. R. T.M. University Nanded.

 Department of Economics has hosted illustrious alumni who have contributed immensely to various fields of national policy making in the country. More than 56 students since 2010 got qualified in SET /NET/JRF examination and they are working in different reputed institutions across the nation.

 Faculties of the department have been published more than 12 text and reference books and many research articles in reputed journals. Yeshwant Mahavidyalaya has a long-standing academic tradition of excellence in research and scholarship.

Department organised Marathwada Arthashastra Parishad in 2007, one day national conference GIIE 2020 (187 Participants including 7 states) and Two days Multidisciplinary International Conference TIEGC-2025 (457 Participants Including 17 States and 7 Nationals of the Globe) successfully. Department also jointly organised One Day National Webinar on Indian Knowledge Systems: Chanakya's Arthashastra-2022 (includes 211 Participants) Department organised one day national workshop on Research methodology in collaboration with IQAC, Commerce dept., English Dept.  and also conducted one university level Workshop on Research Methodology

Department organised One Week Workshop on Financial Literacy (Share Market) and different two Investment awareness programs for faculty and students in collaboration with NSE and SEBI under ‘Kona Kona Shiksha’ Programme.

Department establishes Students ‘Economic Study Forum’ every year and conduct many activity under this forum. Department has been often Publishes Board Flair Named ‘ARTHNITI’ on current economic issues in the economy.
