Highlights/ Features of the Department:
The department has consistently striven to provide quality teaching to students who are drawn to the college from all over the region. In terms of resources and infra-structure too, the department has the latest audio-visual equipment at its disposal including, a Language laboratory with 20+1 consoles connected with LAN with ORELL, Lexis and Linguaphone software; an e-Learning Centre with a recording facility; a Smart Classroom with LCD projector and smart board. The CDs, books and Cassettes from EFLU, Hyderabad in the departmental A/V resources also help in refining the phonetic skills of the students. The department has a Departmental Library and a good collection of high-quality books in the central library-some purchased and others donated by alumni. The department offers a three year BA English program at UG level, a two year PG English Program, Ph. D. program at research level to the students. It offers a Career Oriented Course COC Communicative English, Valued programs like Employability Skills, Soft Skills and Know Yourself (KYS) to the students on the campus. From this academic year onwards, the department is happy to offer the Value-added Program on “Indian Knowledge Systems” to the students of the institutionTo the first year Undergraduate Students, the department offers two Bridge courses- Bridge course in English Literature and Bridge Course in English Language. The department is a recognized research centre of SRTMU Nanded, and is proud to have supervised 18 students towards M. Phil. Degree (YCMOU, Nashik), 18 students towards Ph. D. Degree (SRTMU Nanded) and twelve more students are working for their Ph. D. English Literary Association (ELA) creates a platform for the students to express the extra and co-curricular activities such as Poetry readings, Story Readings, dramatics, Prepared Speeches, Elocution, debates, Grammar games, Literary quizzes, Spell Bee Competitions, Poster presentations and wall paper displays. The department comes out with annual Newsletter incorporating the over-all activities organized during the academic year. The boards for Thought of the Day, Literary and Poetic Thoughts and Literary Terms and Literary thoughts are being written everyday by the PG students. The department organizes a one-week Soft skill program and a one week Know Yourself program to the students and faculty of the college every year. The department organizes literary film shows for a better understanding of the curricular texts. GIFT-IV- ISM is a novel initiative of the department since 2018-19 to help the needy students. The department of English has organized a one week interdisciplinary university level Short Term Course on Soft Skills from 30 March 2015 to 05 April 2015 on its campus. The department has organized a National Webinar on Indian Knowledge Systems: Bhagawad Gita: Worldly Wisdom (IKS-BG-2021) on 29 December 2021; a national webinar on Ruminations on Pandemic Literature (RPL-2021) on 30 December 2021; A One Day International Webinar on Sacred and Sectarian Games: With a Special Reference to Vikram Chandra’s Popular Fiction Sacred Games (SSG-22) on 08 March 2022; and along with other language departments of the college, a two day National Workshop on Drama and Theatre Acting (DTAW-22) on 08 and 09 April 2022. Mr.Manurkar Sambhaji(SET 2013),Mr Aglave Ganesh (SET 2014), Mr Gonde Nilesh(SET 2016), Mr Zunjare Gajnan(NET 2014,SET 2017),Mr Dudhate Madhav (SET 2016,NET 2019), Ms. Bhagyashree Namwade (NET with JRF 2019), Mr. Sunil Kadam (SET 2019), Mr. Jay Chavan (SET 2019), Ms. Tanvir Gulab (SET 2021) are the proud alumni of the college who have cleared the qualifying exam for Teaching at the senior college level. The department is proud of its alumni who are serving the society at various institutions as teachers, officers, Assistant and Associate professors in and around the region. So, both the staff and the students of the department have been fairly active in the past and hope to lead the department and college to greater heights in future too.
