The Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest departments of Yeshwant Mahavidyalya, Nanded established in 1963. The only Department with M. Sc. Org. Chemistry on Granted basis have been started since 1967, and since then we are running undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. courses in specializations, Analytical, Inorganic, Organic and Physical chemistry. The chemistry department has a rich tradition of imparting high-quality teaching and research in cutting-edge thrust areas of chemical science, providing intensive research training to students and research scholars. The students have access to a seminar Hall, Central library where a large collection of international and national reputed journals and reference books of Chemistry are housed. Besides this, the department has a state-of-art instrumentation facility and laboratory infrastructure for conducting quality research. The department was awarded PM USHA, UGC- CPE grants, UGC-BSR program, the DST- FIST program. The department has Smart classrooms and it has procured high-end instruments for research with the support of UGC BSR, CPE, PM USHA grants. The department of chemistry has organized workshops, symposia, and national and international conferences on thrust areas of chemical sciences. More than 45 postgraduate students have qualified NET/SET and GATE examinations in last ten years. The department has produced 37 Ph.Ds, and published 150+ research papers in National, International journals during 2010-2025. Presently 25 candidates are pursuing their research under the guidance of Eight Research Guides. Hence, the department strives to become a globally recognized hub for chemical education, innovation, and interdisciplinary research. Vision: To enhance our status as an outstanding teaching and multidisciplinary research centre which is recognized for its quality teaching, innovative research to promote and discovery of new molecular entities that attracts the best students not only from Marathwada, and Maharshtra but globally. Mission: Our mission is to cultivate a world-class quality teaching environment for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral research programs to empower our students to meet the challenges of academic and industrial arenas. We foster and encourage the pursuit of interdisciplinary research in the thrust areas of chemical sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Green Chemistry, etc. Common Instrumentation Center: It is established in college for the optimized utilization of instrumentation facilities available in college. The CIC is well equipped with various instruments like Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FT-IR), Spectrofluorophotometer (RF), UV-Spectrophotometer (UV), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), Differential Thermogravimetric Analyzer (DTG) etc. worth is 1.5 crores rupees. The instrumentation facilities are available for the students' research scholar, a teacher from collages, but it also available for other collage, industries in the minimum charge. Through this CIC center we also provided soil and of their filed soil testing to the farmer on concession basic. Every year we conduct Hand-on trainings, On Job Trainings on instrumentation to PG chemistry students as per NEP 2020 and also for the faculty. These facilities benefit students, researchers, and the surrounding community by offering testing services and specialized training programs. This is a unique facility in the entire Marathwada region. CIC conducts training sessions and workshops for B.Sc., M.Sc., B.Pharm, and M.Pharm. students, as well as for researchers and government officials, including members of the Pollution Control Board across India. The department also has a well-equipped soil analysis laboratory with state-of-the-art instruments under CIC. This facility has analyzed soil samples of more than 18,000 farmers at very reasonable charges.
