Microbiology is one of the most rewarding of professions because it gives its
practitioners the opportunity to be in contact with all the other natural sciences and thus to
contribute in many different ways to the betterment of human life.
Microbiologists are involved in activities as diverse as gene structure, control of diseases
and industrial processes based on the phenomenal ability of microorganisms to decompose and
synthesize complex organic molecules. Microbiology along with biotechnology is at the frontier
of research in life sciences and has close links with biochemistry, biostatistics and environmental
engineering.
Establishment of Department:
Shri Sharda Bhavan Education Society’s, Yeshwant Mahavidyalaya Nanded, introduced
Microbiology as one of the postgraduate course on non-grant basis in the year 1991. In its
infancy the department was headed by Dr.D.L. Reddy. With his wise experience he guided the
department with the help of Prof.T.A. Kadam. Prof.T.A. Kadam was Head of the dept. from
1997-1999. Dr.S.M. More took over the charge as head of department in August 1999 to till
date heading this department.
Presently this department is operating postgraduate course (since 1991-till date) and
along with it undergraduate B.Sc. course was introduced in 1997. The age of department is 31
years & the department has been receiving the grant for undergraduate course from 2003.
Department of Microbiology has shifted into new building. A good student response and
new improved infrastructure will stimulate further the academic activities of department. There
is one PG Laboratory, one Research Laboratory and one UG Laboratory.

The aluminis of This Department occupies position of good responsibilities in different institutions
of eminence: NCL Pune, NACO, TIFR, Zydus, Reliance Biopharmaceuticals, Cipla, Yashraj
Biotech, Emcure, Flamingo pharmaceuticals in teaching & Research etc...
Mission: The Department maintains its mission as:
1. To create centre of academic excellence in the field of education and research in
Microbiology.
2. To provide a sound academic background for an overall development of personality
for a successful carrier in Microbiology
