About Department of Urdu
The Department of Urdu was established in 1963. It is one of the oldest Department in the region of Marathwada. The department was initially led by Mr. Hussain A.R. as the founder and first Head of the Department. He was succeeded by Mrs. Shamin Ahmad, Dr. Zakir Hussain Farqooqui, Mr. Moinoddin Siddiqui and Dr. Syed Shaujat Ali and Dr. Anees-ul-Haque Qamar. Following retirment of Dr.Anees-Ul-Haq Qamar, Dr. Durrani Shabhana took the charge as the Head of the Department of Urdu in 2018 and presently heads the department. The Department of Urdu has student forum - Bazm-E-Urdu Adab. The forum undertake various activities including essay writing, debate competitions, Nazm and Ghazal recitations for students. The forum Bazm-E-Urdu Adab nurtures the litterateur ability of the students, so that they flourish in public speaking and stage performances.
The department of Urdu conducts various competitions for overall development of personality of the students. The Department invites well known Urdu writers, poets, shayar and personalities, Dr. Hamedulla Khan (Retd. Head, Department of Urdu, DSM College, Parbhani and Fiction Writer, Saleem Mohiuddin, Head, Department of Urdu, Shivaji College and Urdu Poet. Dr. Hameed Ashraf, Head, Department of Urdu, Udaygiri College critic, writer, researcher and guide visit the department. In Urdu Department, Dr. Durrani S.M. HOD is permanent faculty and along with her Azhar Ahmad Gulam Yazdani and Shaikh Muzammil Shaikh Nisar work together on CHB. They strive to not only provide excellent teaching to their students but also to present them as an ideal citizen in the society.
The functioning and vision of the Department of Urdu are closely aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes holistic, multidisciplinary, and skill-based education. The Department of Urdu continues to uphold its rich legacy while adapting to contemporary educational reforms. By integrating traditional literary excellence with modern pedagogical practices and NEP-2020 guidelines, the department plays a vital role in academic development, cultural preservation, and holistic student growth.
